the poster pretty much says it all. and if not, the title should have filled in the gaps. see you saturday
for the opening of Mishka‘s LA store we played at the echoplex with Wavves and Best Coast and DJs 12th Planet, Franki Chan and Killing Spree. Andy Milonakis was there too, “hosting,” which really meant rapping for 20 minutes or so… he’s a nice guy though, so we won’t hold it against him.
so, ummm, what was it like?
good, good…
thanks to everyone that came out for les frankies. merci beaucoup.
fuck that guy who was heckling mimi and then best coast. assholes like him who marginalize by objectifying girl musicians should not be tolerated. THERE’S NO ROOM FOR YOU IN OUR UTOPIA MAN!
OFF TO THE GULAGS!
here’s some video from our set:
also best coast did a pretty good cover of leslie gore’s “that’s the way boys are”. i’m into her being into early ’60s pop so. but not like that.
and frankie chan was there, doing his thing, so i took the opportunity to weird him out a bit, telling him he was a major inspiration for the band name. and then almost before he could say, “no way,” i showed him my tattoo, saying, “i’m really into you.”
“oh, he’s a fanboy,” his female friend said with both affection and mock but by then i had already handed frankie a sticker and was walking away. i turned back, he was focused on the sticker, but she was looking at me so i whispered that i was kidding. i was kidding.
freaking out the squares, one dj at a time
i also told wavves i thought he looked like our stickers, kind of. he might have been flattered but probably just weirded out by the tongue and all that slobber. again, freaking out the squares.
soooooooooooooo
our next show, i think, is an instore at origami records on 3/13. see you there
Well, kind of. Between you and me webworld, it doesn’t look like we’ll have our vinyl by then. Either way, come out, celebrate, get some stuff for free, shake some hands, pat some backs, and burn some holes in your souls because this is going to be great. It’s our first show of the new year and since 2010 is the year of the Frank and we were relatively quiet for the first 1/12th of it, well, you can expect a banger of a good time.
Here’s the facebook invite
And here’s the gist of it: $5/ 18+/ 10pm

Thanks to our favorite photographer Garret Curtis for taking and posting these pictures from our last show on Nov. 28th, 2009 at Pollution Studios in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, CA.
He says more are coming soon but in the meantime check out this five-photo set HERE.
They’re simply beautiful, If I may say so myself… yeah, we look good.

Tonight we were banned from playing The Scene in Glendale. That place sucks. No, there weren’t hot girls bartending there. Just a douchebag named Murphy who would only give us Bud Light from the can. Go fuck yourself Budwiser Light from the can. Go fuck yourself Glendale, CA. Before the show The Franks went to Jons. We left before they could throw us out, but they would have it they had had the chance. I was high on caffine and life and I threw a bag of rice at Mimi, she didn’t catch it, it spilled all over aisle 7, I ran, someone asked Ron if I was on something, he said I was cute, I said I wasn’t, it went on like that for hours, then we took the stage, everyone left the club, we played “Raygun Radio,” knocked over some mics that could hardly stand on their own, the soundguy cut the sound and said we would have to stop being such assholes and treat their gear with respect, he was an asshole, then things went to hell, I acted like a bitch and knocked more stuff over, I’m sorry but I’m not, afterwards the sound guy said the promoter was never going to have us again, I said that was fine by me, then no one would look me in the eyes, Pelle from The Hives was there, loving it, hating it for sure, wishing our friends hadn’t brought him, he just wanted to go to The Donnas’ house in Hollywood for Tacos, I told him Taco Zone was the way to go, but when you’re from Sweden you can’t trust Los Angeles strangers, I’m never leaving this city again.

But seriously, fuck these motherfuckers. Thanks to Charts and Maps for having us, Heard of Elephants for accepting us and then rejecting us into their art collective, and those dudes in the front row for the first half of a song. Ugh. Next time I don’t play there I won’t fuck the whole place up and everyone won’t love it. Stay tuned for more new old stuff and an ongoing campaign against The Scene.

Actually, I’ll probably be back soon, even if I have to sneak in, just to jerk off… My favorite foto album!!!
Anyway, fuck thsoe motherfuckers, they won’t even let me onto their website. And fuck me too.
Stay tuned for more Franks.

Show tonight. Starts at 10 and goes like this: Black Mercies, The Damn Sons, THE FRANKS (US!!!!!!!!!!!!), and White Arrows.
SOUNDS COOL, NO?

We’re playing with out friends The Outline. Look for Rowdy Ron Ray Gunn to make an appearance with both groups, though I don’t know how he even thinks he’ll be able to stand after our set. I’m expecting his knees to break with rock and roll.
No, I don’t know what any of that other stuff means. But I do know we won’t go on until 8. Mimi has class.
Is it weird to play in a mini mall? Check back with me on Wednesday morning.
With luv,
Jean Don’t
